PPH procedures for Russian and Eurasian patent applications

2019-08-15

In simple terms, Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) are bilateral or multilateral programs which allow:

– Patent Offices throughout the world to not double the efforts for examining the same technical decision under patent applications in different jurisdictions;

– applicants to save their time and, in most cases, save their budget as well.

Russian Patent Office (Rospatent) and Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO) also entered into a number of agreements to provide their applicants with PPH benefits.

Rospatent has entered into the following programs

– PPH; PPH Mottainai; PCT-PPH; GPPH,

which cover a number of jurisdictions, namely

  • Australia
  • Austria
  • Canada
  • China
  • Columbia
  • Denmark
  • Germany
  • Hungary
  • Iceland
  • Israel
  • Korea
  • New Zealand
  • Norway
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Singapore
  • Spain
  • USA
  • Finland
  • Sweden
  • Estonia
  • Japan
  • United Kingdom
  • European Patent Office
  • Nordic Patent Institute
  • Visegrad Patent Institute

EAPO has entered into the following programs

– PPH Mottainai; PCT-PPH,

which cover a number of jurisdictions, namely

  • China
  • Japan
  • Korea
  • European Patent Office

Even that the procedure for applying for PPH is always merely the same, it still important to note that there is another benefit the program provides to applicants, namely,

both Russian and English translation of documents required for filing with PPH request is acceptable for Rospatent and EAPO.

Below you may find some visuals to study or refresh basics on most popular PPH procedures.
