The Research Center of Forensic Expertise on IP and IPStyle Arranged the Roundtable On IP Protection in the USA: Practical Aspects

December 8, the Roundtable "IP Protection in the USA: Practical aspects" was held at the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine. The event was organized by The Research Center of Forensic Expertise on Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine jointly with IPStyle Patent Law Company. For Leo Gureff, lawyer at MG-IP Law Firm (USA), the Roundtable was the final event in which he participated as a speaker during his visit to Ukraine.

According to Vladislav Fedorenko, Director of The Research Center of Forensic Expertise on IP of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, who opened the Roundtable, the US is the most successful country regarding the protection of Intellectual Property. In turn, IPStyle Director Mariya Ortynska noted that several meetings have been organized with Mr Gureff, each one on the unique subject: "We talked about forensics, trends and issues of concern for business, and today, on the final meeting, we speak on courts".

Leo Gureff started with hot-button issue for Ukraine - patent trolls. "Your trolls are the same as ours, but they operate differently", - assured the foreign visitor. Patents - one of the main tools used by the US trolls. The US Supreme Court narrows and changes "patent rules of the game" about every five years. He told about the hearing process, interaction between a judge, who interprets the meaning of the claims, experts and parties, as well as spoke on protection of Copyright and IP rights to trademarks in the US, recommending to conduct registration as soon as possible in order to get the full benefit.
